Add it as an exception by going to Settings » General » Exclusions.Make sure the blocked file or webpage is not malicious by testing it at.Sometimes you may think the file/URL are safe but they are actually infected and it’s not just Avast which is detecting them. For this, you can use a free online scanner VirusTotal. I won’t even mention how much support time and nerves these guys cost me.Īnyway, we strongly recommend scanning the file/webpage also through some other virus engines to make sure it’s really clean. I’ve been plagued by false positives created by various antivirus programs for ages, but for the latest year or so, Avast really takes the crown with about a dozen of these. Just ran V8.0 on a Mac running OSX 10.9.2 and got a bunch of alerts all in the invisible Spotlight directory, all are txts with the tag HTML:BANKFRAUD-BUT with variations and a couple identified as Phishes. The software's sole downside is the largest system impact in passive. To be fair false-positive detection happens basically to every antivirus on the market, it’s not just Avast.īitdefender Antivirus for Mac combines excellent malware protection with a new ransomware-protection tool that's easy to use. In the past, Avast was blocking some of the most popular software (Steam for example) for a short period of time. This is a perfect fix when Avast is blocking one of your favorite programs, but you still want to run/allow it. If such false-positive detection prevails after the virus definitions update, you may want to exclude the detected software or website from the Avast scan. These wrong detections are called false positives. The application will install the additional components and convert into Internet Security without you needing to re-download the application application or reinstall it from scratch. In very rare cases, Avast may detect and block some programs or website pages as a virus, although you know for sure it’s safe. To confirm this, can I please ask you to reinstall Avast Internet Security? To do this, please open the Avast Free application > click "Menu" in the top right corner > click "My Licenses" > click "Enter a valid activation code" > enter your activation code for Internet Security. I believe that the issue will not repeat if you reinstall Internet Security. I suspect that the downgrade from Internet Security to Free is a 'red herring', as there is not a component included in Internet Security that should have this effect. ![]() We have been unable to replicate the issue.Ĭan I ask if Avast showed any notifications or dialog boxes at all when the game originally failed to launch? How did you originally identify it was an issue with Avast (before reverting to back to Avast Free)? I'm sorry to hear about the issues you were experiencing trying to launch Football Manager 2012. However it may not be the games executable that is launching the connection being blocked. Components > Web Shield > Customise > Exclusions > Processes to exclude. the games executable), but to reach that area you would have to go into the UI > Menu > Settings > Troubleshooting - scroll to the bottom and select Open Old Settings. I just wonder if you could try Excluding a process (e.g. are you getting an avast error displayed ? You say that avast is blocking the game from launching, what form is this taking, e.g. I will try and draw some attention to this topic. Unfortunately as an Avast User I can't go any further than this. I guess the reason why I can see the Filter by options File/Folder and Website is that I already have Exceptions in both areas. It looks like it is only excepting website in the sense you would be using http/https protocols. Given the error that it isn't a valid path or URL, it should accept a URL, but I guess that it doesn't see steam:// as a valid URL or can't deal with that protocol. ![]()
